Chapter 22

Tionna

I walked over to my front door and locked it after Brittany left. My right cheek was still burning from where she hit it. Angrily, I walked into my bathroom and grabbed a face towel and ran cold water over it. Placing the towel on my face, I stared at my reflection. Beside my hair slightly disheveled and the red burning cheek, I didn’t look half bad.

I pulled the band from around my hair that was placed into a ponytail and shook my head until my hair was nearly standing all over my head. My reflection was what I was most comfortable with now. Ugly!

Then I walked out of the bathroom and made a beeline to the fridge to get a Heineken. My cell phone buzzed just as I opened it. Retrieving it, I read the text message, OPEN THE DOOR.

I threw the phone back down on the counter and walked to the front door, unlocking the locks one at a time. At first sight I sucked my teeth to show that I was annoyed by their presence.

“What the hell is up with your hair?” they asked me.

“Don’t worry about that. What’s up? What are you doing popping up over here anyway? I told you to stop doing that mess,” I replied taking a huge gulp of my beer to help ease the tension I was currently feeling.

“Looks like I needed to call, huh? I saw little Ms. Brittany just drive off. Interesting. What is she doing over here?”

“She’s starting to put two and two together, that’s what.” I plopped down on my couch and reached for the remote. “Did you come empty-handed, or did you at least bring some food?”

“Never mind if I brought food. Tell me what she’s starting to know, Tionna. Don’t tell me that you’re messing up the plan. We worked months on this.”

I sat straight up and screamed, “Look now, I only agreed to this damn plan because I’m tired of looking at that bitch in the face and acting like I love her and shit. Her ass will be fine without me in her life.” I grabbed my beer and took another gulp.

They laughed at me and whispered, “You are one miserable, depressed, and jealous chick. Main reason why you work so well in this situation.”

I rolled my eyes. “Yeah; whatever. Order me some food, will ya?” I turned my attention back to the TV and began to get lost in the program.

“I’ll go pick us up some food to shoot. This baby has me eating like a fat chick these days.”

I waved them off and turned the volume up on the TV to block out my thoughts on how I was betraying the only person who had genuinely loved me as they walked back out of my door. I shrugged my shoulders to myself and said out loud, “Doesn’t matter. Bitches lie just like men do every day, all day.” I smirked and took another gulp of my beer and went to fetch another bottle.
